Abstract

1390922 Laminates ASHTON CONTAINERS Ltd 13 July 1972 [30 July 1971] 35887/71 Heading B5N [Also in Division B8] A container blank made from corrugated board has an extra layer of fluting bonded to the normal fluting of the board in a region where local strengthening is required, the extra layer of fluting and the normal fluting to which is bonded being of identical thickness, pitch and depth so that intimate contact between the two is maintained over the whole of one side of the extra layer, and the local strengthening being limited to those portions of the blank which constitute load bearing panels of the container when erected. The corrugated board may be of fibrous material or of thermoplastic resin, bonding between the liners and flutings or between the flutings being by means of an adhesive applied over whole areas of material or in localized areas, e.g. the crests of the fluting, or by welding techniques. At the region of local strengthening there may be in sequence: (a) an external liner, extra fluting, adhesive, normal fluting and an external liner, or (b) an external liner, coarse extra fluting, adhesive, normal coarse fluting, an internal liner, fine fluting and an external liner. The blank may be such that in a container erected therefrom the four main walls are strengthened and the end flaps are unstrengthened and are thin enough to provide easy closing of the ends of the container.
