Abstract

1390577 Machinery safety devices W M BRODERICK 14 June 1973 28334/73 Heading F2J In a mould, or press (not shown), a resiliently floating pressure sensitive safety pad 20 is carried adjacent the front face of the movable platen 12 facing the fixed platen 10 whereby contact of the pad 20 with the operator's hand, or any other foreign body during closing operation of the mould causes premature displacement of the pad 30 which effects premature operation of a micro-switch 54 to effect a reversal of the hydraulically operated row 18 into opening movement. A first micro-switch 52 is arranged such that during normal i.e. non- interrupted closing of the mould the switch 52, projecting from the fixed platen 10, is operated before the pressure pad sensitive micro-switch 54 so as to indicate a safe condition and accordingly condition the electrical circuit of the machine for full lock-up i.e. completed closing of mould parts 60, 62 which are arranged on the fixed platen 10 and the pressure sensitive pad 20 of movable platen 12 respectively. The pad 20 is resiliently floatingly carried on the movable platen 12 by leaf springs 32, arranged in vertical recessed slots in the faces of the platen 12 and pad 20, and balance springs 44 seated on the platen 12 and in housings 46 on the pad 20, the springs 44 being adjustable at 48 whereby the pressure sensitive pad 20 is balanced in equilibrium between the leaf springs 32 and balance springs 44, headed stop bolts 22 ensuring a predetermined gap "G" between the platen 12 and pad 20 is not exceeded.
