Abstract
1389463 Metering gas to mixing apparatus BRITISH GAS CORP 5 Sept 1973 [8 June 1972] 26862/72 Heading B1C [Also in Division G1] In an apparatus for providing a measured supply of a primary gas e.g. for supplying measured quantities of fuel gas to a calorimeter, the gas is supplied alternately through valves 1, 1' to tubes 19, 19' each tube being of accurately determined or determinable internal volume, and a secondary gas is supplied subsequently and alternately to the previously filled tube to displace the primary gas to the point of use, valve control means being provided to ensure that at all times one tube 19 or 19' is being filled with primary gas while the other 19' or 19 is being discharged so that a practically continuous supply of successive known volumes of gas may be provided. When a tube is being filled with primary gas the outlet thereof is connected via the valve to atmosphere, optionally through vacuum means. Shut-off valves 21, 21' in the primary gas supply may be closed under the control of a timer 28 before the completion of the respective tube filling part of the cycle to allow the gas in the tube to reach pressure equilibrium with the atmosphere. When the apparatus is used for supplying fuel gas to a calorimeter the secondary gas used is air the presence of part of which with the metered volume of fuel gas is acceptable since air is required for combustion in the calorimeter. Additional air or oxygen for combustion is injected into the line 23 and mixing of the air/fuel gas is effected in a mixing device 31.
