Abstract

835,231. Testing fluid leakage. SOUTHERN GAS BOARD. July 24, 1956 [Aug. 25, 1955], No. 24441/55. Class 106 (2). [Also in Group XXVIII] Apparatus for measuring leakage in a system containing fluid comprises a pressure gauge 1, means 5 manually operable to inject fluid into the system at a rate to maintain the pressure constant, and a timing device (not shown) for determining the rate and period of the injection. A pressure gauge 1 is connected by a tube 4 to the system, and by a tube 6 to the injecting means 5. This latter comprises a cylinder 5 containing a piston held against a screwed rod 9 by a spring. The rod 9 screws into the cover of the cylinder, turning on a ball to prevent rotation of the piston when the handle 10 is turned. In use the number of turns necessary in a given time to keep the pressure in the system constant gives an indication of the rate of leakage. The timing device may be of the type which gives an audible signal after a given period.
