Abstract

1389459 Transport systems KRAUSSMAFFEI AG 20 Dec 1972 [20 Jan 1972 27 April 1972] 58729/72 Heading B7L A transport system comprises a vehicle 1 suspended and guided by laterally spaced rows of electromagnets 5, 5<SP>1</SP> which co-operate with armature rails 4 on the track 3, the vehicle being propelled by linear induction motors 6 which react with rails 7, there being on the base of the vehicle two rows of permanent magnets 8 one of which, in the region of a switch, co-operates with a row of permanent magnets 9 on the outside of the curve of the branch track to be taken, driven in the switch region on the outside of the curve being taken over by D.C. linear motor 12 co-operating with magnets 8. The row of magnets 9 on the outside of the curve of the branch track to be taken incline upwards at the entry portion of the switch, incline downwards at the end portion of the switch and remain at a constant height in the centre portion. In a modification separate suspension and guiding systems are provided. As an alternative to rasing and lowering the level of magnets 9 screens may be provided over rows of magnets 8 which are withdrawn should the support facility of magnets 8, 9 be required. Electromagnets may replace permanent magnets 8, 9 and may be inclined with respect to the horizontal or on superelevated portions of the track to provide a force opposing centrifugal forces on curve portions of the switch. A single row of magnets on the vehicle may be laterally displaceable. The vehicle may be supported in the region of a switch by laterally spaced coils 30, mounted on the vehicle, having cores 31 and adapted to react with a track rail 33. D.C. feed to the coils produces only suspension of the vehicle but A.C. will also produce a propelling force. The rails may be raised and lowered using an hydraulic system 34. The vehicles may be supported and guided in the region of a switch by electromagnets 108, 109 on the vehicle roof which co-operate with armature rails 111, 112 on the ceiling of a tunnel forming the track at the switch.
