Abstract

1449764 Transport systems KRAUSSMAFFEI AG 15 Feb 1974 [9 June 1973] 7130/74 Addition to 1409764 Heading B7L A transport system comprises a track 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 with a switch to a branch track, Fig. 3, and a vehicle 1 electromagnetically suspended and guided along the tracks by means of rows of electromagnets 6, 7 and 8, 9 mounted below the vehicle at respective sides and reacting magnetically with armature rails 11, 13 and 14, 12 mounted on the tracks above the electromagnet, wherein the rows 7, 8 and the rails 13, 14 are horizontally offset vertically higher than the rows 6, 9 and rails 11, 12 in order that by operating the windings of rows 7 and 9 above, the vehicle can travel through the switch on the straight section and by operating windings of the rows 6 and 8 alone, the vehicle can travel round the branch track. The invention is characterized in that the horizontal offset between the rows of electromagnets 6, 7 and 8, 9, is at least equal to the overall width of each electromagnet of the upper rows 7, 8. The switch has no moving parts. The vehicle is driven by a linear induction motor 26 having a winding 27 on the vehicle interacting with a reaction pad 28 on the armature rail 11. The electromagnets, e.g. 6, 7 are energised by windings, e.g. 23, 24. In another embodiment Figs. 5 to 8 (not shown) the outer rows of electromagnets and their rails are higher than the inner rows of electromagnets and their rails and the switch is arranged so that the vehicle will be banked when rounding the branch track.
