Abstract

1389457 Converters PENNSYLVANIA ENG CORP 5 Oct 1972 [12 Oct 1971] 45972/72 Heading F4B [Also in Division C7] The composition and duration of the blast to a bottom-blown converter 10 is controlled by a computer 99 which receives in addition to the initial input of charge data, data on bath temperature from probe 20, and on exhaust gas composition from sampler 28 and analyser 30, as the refining proceeds, and modifies the conditions accordingly. Solid additives from hoppers 40, 41 are entrained in a stream of gas from the appropriate supply line, the various valves being under the control of the computer, and the mixture delivered to the converter through line 17. The bottom of the converter comprises a housing 15 containing a distributer chamber connected by pipe 17<SP>1</SP> and hollow trunnion 12 to the solid-gas suspension supply line 17. The suspension is discharged through pipes 18 extending upwardly through tuyeres 19 in the converter lining.
