1388961 Displaying articles RATNERS (JEWELLERS) Ltd 6 Sept 1973 [16 Nov 1972] 53051/72 Heading A4T A case for displaying an article, such as a watch or jewellery, comprises a restraint 3 to which an article can be attached and which is drawable from an article display position against resilient opposition so that the article can be removed from the case for examination, the restraint co-operating with trigger means 8 such that alarm mechanism 14 is normally maintained inoperative but is actuated if the article is removed from the restraint in such manner as to permit the resilient opposition to withdraw the restraint past the article display position. The case is in the form of a cabinet 1 having a number of apertures 2 in front of which the articles, such as watches, are displayed. Each watch is attached by a clip Figs. 3A, 3B, 3C (not shown) to the end of a respective wire 3 which passes through a hole 4 in the front of the case, over a bar 5 and a conductor rod 6, the other end of the wire being attached to a spring 7. The wire, where it passes over the conductor rod 6, holds a contact arm 8 against resilient opposition urging it to contact a conductor plate 9, the rod and plate being connected to a battery or other power source 13, alarm 14 and master switch 12. The watches are connected by the clips to the ends of the wires 3, the clips acting as stops to normally prevent the ends of the wires passing through the holes 4. The springs 7 permit a watch to be withdrawn a short distance from its display position for examination. If, however, a wire is broken in an attempt to steal a watch, its associated contact arm 8 engages the conductor plate 9 to activate the alarm 14.
