Abstract
1388042 Controlling ships' rudders and stabilizers; controlling aircraft N WORTHING & CO Ltd 2 March 1973 [4 March 1972] 10235/72 Headings B7V B7G and B7M An hydraulic control mechanism consists of a pair of double acting rams 2a, 2b powered from constant pressure source 14. The rams act on crank-pins 7a, 7b on arm 8 fixed to rudder stock 9 so that one crank-pin passes through top dead centre when the rudder is partially deflected in one direction and the other crank-pin passes through top dead centre when the rudder is partially deflected in the opposite direction. The mechanism includes at least one pair 10a. 10b of linked reversing valves each one reversing pressure fluid connections to the ends of each ram of the pair, as a piston thereof passes through its top dead centre. The surface controlled may also be a ship's stabilizing fin or an aileron of an aircraft.
