Abstract
1386710 Pneumatic emptying of hoppers B SEM 5 July 1973 [6 July 1972] 31975/73 Heading B8A A turbulent air supply is provided at the base of a hopper, to aid discharge of granular material, by a rotor located in a casing in the region of an air inlet and a plate having oblique channels therein located at the end of the casing adjacent the inlet to a nozzle connected to the hopper. Fig. 3A, 3B, 3C show three preferred constructions of rotor. In each case, air enters casing 4 at inlet 5 and leaves through oblique channels in a plate member mounted on the axis of rotation of the rotor 9. In Fig. 3A the rotor has a closure 10 and a counterweight 11 so that the centre of gravity is on the axis of rotation. A pulsating air stream results. The rotor of Fig. 3B has no counterweight to give pulsations and mechanical agitation, while the rotor of Fig. 3C has no closure to provide greater agitation and reduced pulsation.
