Abstract

1386110 Workpiece stops J A GIBBS 3 Jan 1974 [5 Oct 1972] 45858/72 Heading B3B A back-stop for use in the spindle of a centre lathe comprises an inner collet a an outer collet b which are threadably engaged coaxially, a stop bar c passing through the inner collet and which is adjustable axially to a predetermined position relative to the collet assembly. The collets having co-operating chamfer surfaces whereby when the assembly is located in the end of the lathe spindle screwing of the two collets together causes contraction of the inner collet on to the stop bar and expansion of the outer collet into clamping engagement with the lathe spindle bore. The outer collet has a shoulder which abuts the spindle end and forms a datum for axial location of the stop bar. A collar d may be located on the stop bar in the spindle to prevent whirling of the bar during operation.
