A chuck comprises a collet 7 secured in a coned body 6 by a coupling 10 having a coarser threaded connection with the body and a finethreaded connection with the collet, fluidpressure means being provided in the coupling for forcing the collet into the body. A screw 22 is turned to move a piston 15 axially to clamp the collet after the coupling has been rotated hand-tight.
