Abstract

1297762 Chucks BRISTOL ERICKSON Ltd 16 July 1971 33586/71 Heading B3B A chuck for holding tools having a screwthreaded portion at the end of a shank, e.g. an end mill, comprises a body 10 having a central longitudinally extending bore 11, 12, a sleeve 16 located in said bore and in screw thread engagement with said body, said sleeve 16 having two internal axially spaced apart frustoconical surfaces 21, 22, a collet 25 received within said sleeve 16 and provided with two external axially spaced apart frusto-conical surfaces for co-operation with said frusto-conical surfaces 21, 22 on said sleeve, a driver plate 28 located rearwardly of said collet and provided with a central screw-threaded aperture 29 for receiving the screw-threaded portion of the tool shank, means 20, 30 to prevent rotation of said driver plate relative to said body or said sleeve and adjustable axial location means 32, 33 for said tool. To prevent rotation of the driver plate 28, projections 30 of the driver plate engage in recesses 20 in the sleeve 16 or in recesses in the body 10. Locating surfaces 13, 14 may be cylindrical or frusto-conical. The sleeve 16 may abut a front face 24 of the body or a surface at the bottom of the bore 12.
