Abstract

1,262,935. Chucks and sockets. CINCINNATI-NEDERLAND N.V. 16 April, 1969 [17 April, 1968], No. 19535/69. Heading B3B. A quick-change tool-holder comprises a spindle 1 having a conical socket for a flanged tool-holder 2, a clamping ring 4 having projecting lugs 5 which in one position overlie the flange 3 of the tool-holder but which can be aligned with slots in the flange 3 to allow for removal of the tool-holder, and springs 9 which bear on a collar 7 axially secured by ball-bearing 6 to the clamping ring 4 to provide clamping pressure thereto. The spindle 1 is mounted in an axially movable quill 21, movement of which to the right, as shown, brings collar 7 into abutment with a stop-ring 16 secured to the spindle housing, then compresses the springs 9 and releases the lugs 5 of the clamping ring 4 from the flange 3 of the tool-holder; the ring 4 may then be rotated through 30 degrees to align the lugs 5 with the slots in the tool-holder flange for replacement of the tool-holder. Movement of the quill may be effected manually, hydraulically or electrically and may be arranged to operate a stop switch controlling the rotation of the spindle.
