Abstract

1386013 Refractory linings OSTERREICHISCH-AMERIKANISCHE MAGNESIT AG 2 May 1972 [7 May 1971] 20466/72 Heading ClJ [Also in Division F4] Linings in degasifying vessels and in converters for the oxygen-argon process (Jocelyn process) consist of magnesia-chrome bricks formed from a granulated, fused material which contains 10-35 wt. per cent Cr 2 O 3 , up to 4À5 wt. per cent CaO + SiO 2 and has a Cr 2 O 2 : Fe 2 O 3 ratio of at least 3À0. The material may be obtained by fusing a mixture of MgO or precursor thereof with chrome ore with or without added Cr 2 O 3 or CrO 3 , either under non-reducing or reducing conditions (in which latter case, resulting metallic iron is removed magnetically). Manganese and aluminium oxides are stated to be present as impurities. In one embodiment, up to 10 wt. per cent of finely-ground Cr 2 O 3 or CrO 3 is added to the fused material.
