Abstract

1385870 Suction cleaners ELECTROLUX AB 25 Sept 1973 [25 Sept 1972] 44916/73 Heading A4F A suction cleaner has a rotatable driven brush type agitator 19 disposed adjacent a suction opening in a hollow base part 12 and movable vertically by rotation of a shaft 25 turnably mounted in the part 12 and connected to the agitator 19, as by arms 24, and to adjustable resilient means for urging the agitator towards or away from a work surface, e.g. a spring 41 which acts via a bracket 38 upon a rod 27 coupled to an offset portion 26 of the shaft 25 to urge the agitator 19 downwardly towards a work surface, the downward movement being limited by an eccentric cam engaging the bracket 38 and adjusted by a rotary knob 40. When a handle 42 Fig. 1 (not shown) or an upper housing part 11 (containing a dust bag and motor fan unit) is vertical, the part 11 engages a lever 43 to retract the rod 27 so that the agitator 19 is lifted into an inoperative parked position. A nut 47 coupling the lever 43 to the rod 27 is adjustable to set the operative position of the agitator 19 as required by the wear of the agitator bristles and/or the length of the pile of a rug to be cleaned.
