Abstract

1385584 Treatment of textiles H E A GRUNOW 20 April 1972 [29 April 1971] 18329/72 Heading DIP [Also in Division F4] Textiles are treated with water in an organic solvent by adding water to the solvent in a quantity exceeding the water-retaining capacity of the solvent and treating the textiles with the water, and then removing water from the textiles by adding an emulsifier to increase the water-retaining capacity of the solvent, the surplus water forming a micellar combination with the solvent. Azeotropic evaporation, or centrifuging or thermal drying are then employed. The water may contain dissolved or dispersed finishing agent(s) such as acids, salts, alkalis, bleaching agents, whitening agents, dyes or pigments. The water is distributed in the organic solvent by mechanical agitation or pumping. Additional rinsing water may be added to the liquor during or subsequent to the treatment. The solvent may be recovered by decanting, distillation, condensation or absorption, and may comprise trichlorethylene, perchlorethylene, or trichlorotrifluoroethane. Examples of dyeing and brightening treatments are described.
