Abstract

1385090 Roll holder J J SMITH 15 Feb 1973 [7 July 1972 4 Oct 1972] 31871/72 and 45683/72 Heading A4G A holder for a roll having a cylindrical axial cavity comprises a support frame 21 having spaced apart arms 22, 23 with aligned holes 61 and an inwardly directed roll centre 25 attached to each of said arms by fastening means passing through said holes and adapted to support the roll at opposite ends of its axis, one or each roll centre comprising a pair of telescopically arranged cup-shaped members urged to their extended position by resilient means. In one embodiment Fig. 1, one of the pair of cup-shaped members has an internal lip and the other a co-operating external flange to limit relative axial movement caused by a spring 33. The roll centre is fastened to the arm 22 of the frame 21 by a peg 59 having a bifurcated end portion, or by a screw fastener. The flange and or the lip may be notched to facilitate assembly. In the embodiment of Fig. 16 a roll centre comprises a dome shaped member 50 received within a cup shaped member 46. The member 50 may have one or more grooves 55 to assist in locating a roll.
