Abstract

1384464 Gelatin EASTMAN KODAK CO 3 Feb 1972 [4 Feb 1971] 5044/72 Heading C3H [Also in Division G2] A gelatin layer is tempered by a polyol of one of the following formulae incorporated in the gelatin layer or a layer adjacent thereto: n which R is phenyl or substituted phenyl, alkyl (1-8C), substituted alkyl or alkenyl; p is 0 or 1; m is 0, 1 or 2, and n is 1 or 2 provided that m and n are not both 2; R<SP>1</SP> is alkyl (1-80), H 1 an alkali metal atom, or the atoms required to complete an ammonium salt group; D is the atoms required to complete a 5 or 6 membered carbocyclic ring, and taken separately R 2 is H and R 3 is OH, or taken together they represent = O; Examples of the polyols include 2-(21-hydroxyethylamino) - 2 - (hydroxymethyl) - 1,3- propanediol, 2[bis - (2<SP>1</SP>- hydroxyethyl)amino]- 2 - (hydroxymethyl - 1,3 - propanediol, 2,2,6,6- tetramethylolcyclohexanol, 2,2,5,5 - tetramethylolcyclopentanol, 1,1,3,3 - tetramethylol- 2-decalone and 2,2-dimethylolindanone.
