Abstract
1,054,344. Stabilizers for silver halide emulsions. AGFA-GEVAERT A. G. Aug. 9, 1965 [Aug. 8, 1964], No. 34044/65. Heading G2C. [Also in Division C2] A light-sensitive material comprises a silver halide emulsion layer, which is stabilized by an azaindene stabilizer having at least one nitrogen atom in the six-membered ring of the indene nucleus and an amino thiazole mercury compound of the formula:- wherein X represents an anion e.g. Cl<SP>-</SP>, CH 3 .COO<SP>-</SP>, Br<SP>-</SP> or r and R 1 and R 2 represent phenyl or naphthyl groups which may be substituted by halogen e.g. chlorine or bromine, an alkoxy group or alkyl group. Specified aza-indenes are: 4-hydroxy-6- methyl-1, 3, 3a, 7-tetrazaindene, 4-hydroxy-5- chloro-6-methyl-1 3, 3a, 7-tetrazindene, 4-hydroxy- 5-carboxy-1, 3, 3a, 7-tetrazindene, 5-amino-7- hydroxy-1, 2, 3, 4, 6-pentazaindene, 5-methyl-7- hydroxy-1, 2, 3, 4, 6-pentazaindene, 5, 7-diamino-1, 2, 3, 4, 6-pentazaindene, 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-1, 2, 3, 3a, 7-pentazaindene, 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-1, 3a, 7-triazaindene, 2-methyl-4-hydroxy-6-methyl - 3, 3a, 7-triazaindene, 2-methyl-4-hydroxy-6- methyl-1, 3, 3a, 7-tetrazaindene, 2-hydroxymethyl- 4-hydroxy-6 -methyl-1, 3, 3a, 7 -tetrazaindene, 4-amino-6-methyl-1, 3, 3a,7-tetrazaindene and 4-amino-5-ethyl-6-methyl-1, 3, 3a, 7-tetrazaindene. The emulsion may be sensitized with polyalkylene oxides of which many are listed such as the condensation product of a spirocyclic pentaerythritoldi-(phosphoric acid monochloride) and polyethylene glycol containing 20 ethylene oxide units and the polyaddition product of 80 mols ethylene oxide and 1 mol oleyl alcohol.
