1384148 Trouser presses IBIS ENGS Ltd 9 July 1973 [18 July 1972] 33444/72 Heading D1A A trouser press comprises a vertical shaft 2 mounted in a central housing and supporting three radial arms 3 from each of which depends a pressing assembly 7 on which a pair of trousers A may be mounted surrounding a perforated steam chest 12, the arms and pressing assemblies being indexable between, an unloadable, a loading, and a pressing station where a box 8 of the pressing assembly registers with a fluid duct 51 and pressing heads 57 (Fig. 2) are moved substantially horizontally against the registering pressing assembly 7 and a pair of trousers thereon. Each pressing assembly 7 (Figs. 1, 5) is rotatable through 90‹ on a telescopic depending rod 6 relative to the respective arm 3 by a ram 60 and is movable vertically by a ram 6 and comprises the box 8 supporting a fixed arm 9 and a movable arm 10, with a waistband hook 11, interconnected by a flexible tube 21. In use a pair of trousers A is placed against the arms 9, 10 and held there by fingers 9a, 10a with the waistband on the hook 11, the arm 10 is moved to tension the trousers, vacuum is applied from a pipe 56 through porous surfaces of the arms and the fingers 9a, 10a are retracted. The arms are indexed 120‹ by a ram 30-pivoting an arm (31) (Fig. 4, not shown) with a yoke (32) which engages and pushes a peg 33 on a disc 34 attached to the shaft 2 until the box 8 registers with the duct 51 when a fan 49 successively blows hot air from a heater 50 and steam from a steam chamber 49a through the duct 51 and into the steam chest 12 and the centre of the trousers and steam is passed through a tube 55, down the arm 9, through the tube 21 and up the arm 10 for the leg creases. After pressing vacuum is again applied to the arms and the pressing assembly indexed to the unloading station.
