Abstract

138,401. Tarrant, W. G. Jan. 13. 1919. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Planes, construction of; framework.-In a wing structure for aeroplanes, the front and rear spars 1 are connected to the ribs 3 by pairs of wooden strips 8, 10 attached to the webs 4 of the ribs in front of and behind each spar, a tenon 9, which passes through the spar, being secured between each pair of strips 8, 10. At the leading edge of the wing, the upper and lower portions of the rib are connected by a member 111, and a pair of strips 12. with a tenon 13 between them, are secured to the webs 4. The spars 1 are composed of longitudinal members 5 grooved to receive the beaded ends 6 of crossbraces 7. The upper and lower portions of the ribs are connected by cross-braces 14, and the ribs arc connected by stringers parallel to the spars.
