Abstract

1383263 Cooling towers ECODYNE CORP 2 Feb 1973 [8 March 1972] 5420/73 Heading F4K [Also in Division E1] In a concrete cooling tower of the cross-flow type having a reinforced concrete foundation 11, ribbed vertical wall panels 12, louvre assemblies 13, distribution pipes 14, fan stacks 16 and a top deck 15, the lower ends of the wall panels 40 and the louvre posts 52 comprising the louvre assemblies 13 are respectively received in recessed channels 30 and recessed cavities 32 formed in the footings 22 of the foundation 11, the panels 40 and posts 52 being secured to the foundation by means of bolts 36 and plates 47 and 59. The louvre posts, which are reinforced by a reinforcing network 55, have slots 58 adapted to receive and support louvre blades 54. The panels 40 are reinforced by rods 48. The top deck 15 is supported on the upper edges of the wall panels 40 and posts 52 and comprises a plurality of precast prestressed double "T" beams 70, 70<SP>1</SP> covered with a layer 74 of concrete. Each beam 70 includes a flange portion 75 and a pair of spaced longitudinally and downwardly extending ribs 76 and is reinforced by rods 82 and wire mesh 80. Spray openings 78 are formed in the flange portion 75, each opening being lined with an insert (103, Fig. 15) adapted to receive an upwardly extending plastic nozzle extension (105). Precast top deck panels 72 supported on ledger beams 100 and keystone beams 108 define circular fan stack openings (120, Fig. 8). Fill material in the form of strips 158, Fig. 30, is carried by hanger assemblies 150 each of which comprises a plurality of wire fill hangers 156 suspended from support tubes 151; 'the tubes 151 are secured to the ribs 76 of the T-bars 70 by means of bolts 152.
