Abstract
1382697 Whitening films SANYO KOKUSAKU PULP CO Ltd 26 Sept 1972 [5 Oct 1971 (4)] 44423/72 Heading B5B Films composed of 100 parts by weight of thermoplastic synthetic crystalline resin and 5 to 300 parts by weight of an organic or inorganic filler are whitened by passage over a rigid blade, the film being bent over the blade at a constant deflection from its path of between 20 and 170 degrees. This whitening is conducted without positive heating or stretching the film. After whitening, however, the film is drawn monoaxially or biaxially at a ratio below the natural draw ratio of the film. The blade has a radius of curvature of 0À01 to 1À0 mm. The particle size of the filler is less than the thickness of the film and between 0À01 and 100 microns. In the examples the film is composed of high density polyethylene or isotactic polypropylene filled with CaCO 3 particles.
