Abstract

1490512 Web stretching BAKELITE XYLONITE Ltd 12 Sept 1974 [13 June 1973] 28175/73 Heading B5B A web of thermoplastic polymer resin is oriented monoaxially or biaxially using apparatus as described and claimed in Specifications 1,374,574 and 1,442,113. The stretching is carried out between the glass transition point and the melting point of the polymer. The polymer may comprise 100 parts by wt. of polyolefin, e.g. high density polyethylene or polypropylene, and 5 to 100 parts by wt. of a styrene polymer which may be a homopolymer or a copolymer of styrene with, e.g. butadiene, acrylonitrile or acrylic or methacrylic esters, and has an intrinsic viscosity (measured in toluene at 25‹ C.) of 0À6 to 1À1. Also included may be 0À5 to 20 parts per 100 parts polyolefin of a rubbery polymer or copolymer, e.g. styrenebutadiene, 2 to 20 parts per 100 parts polyolefin of an ethylene-vinyl copolymer, and pigments, fillers and lubricants. The stretch ratio is between 3 : 1 and 7 : 1.
