Abstract
1382490 Bituminous composition BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 25 May 1972 [26 May 1971] 24604/72 Headings C3N and C3P An ionically cross-linked mixture comprises: (A) 1-100 parts by weight of an ethylene copolymer containing, as polymerized units, 60-99À5% by weight of ethylene, 0À5-40% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, and optionally 0À5-39À5% by weight of one or more comonomers, the sum of the percentages being 100 in each case; (B) 1-100 parts by weight of a bituminous substance which has a penetration at 25‹ C. of 0À1-300 according to DIN 1995; and (c) 1-50 parts by weight of at least one neutral or basic metal naphthenate, naphthenesulphonate and/or sulphonate. The mixture may also contain filler, dye or pigment, and a further polymer. Specific examples disclose mixtures of (i) an ethylene/ acrylic acid copolymer with (a) albino bitumen and either basic calcium naphthenate and optionally TiO 2 (1) or calcium dodecylbenzenesulphonate (4) or (b) distillation bitumen and basic calcium naphthenate (3); (ii) a waxy ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer with albino bitumen and calcium dodecylbenzenesulphonate (6); (iii) an ethylene-acrylic acid/n-butyl acrylate copolymer with (a) distillation bitumen and any one of sodium/dibutylnaphthalenesulphonate (5), potassium naphthenate (10), zinc naphthenate (11), magnesium naphthenate (12), aluminium naphthenate (13), and neutral calcium naphthenate (14); or (b) sulphate. pitch and basic calcium naphthenate and optionally iron oxide or chalk (2); (iv) a copolymer of ethylene/ t.-butyl acrylate/acrylic acid/isobutylene with pale bitumen, a mixture of basic calcium naphthenate and calcium naphthenesulphonate, and gypsum (7, 8, 9); and (v) a copolymer of ethylene and methacrylic acid together with a sulphate pitch and sodium ethylpropylnaphthalenesulphonate (15). The composition of Example 5 may also contain polyisobutylene, and rubber whilst that of Example 9 may be blended with polyethylene, copolymers of ethylene with acrylic esters or vinyl esters, polyisobutylene, atactic polypropylene, polyvinyl isobutyl ether, natural rubber and synthetic rubber.
