Abstract

[Also in Divisions B2 and C3] Carpets are made by applying a secondary jute backing sheet to a primary jute backing with nylon pile coated on the reverse side with a melt of a composition comprising (A) 10 to 35 weight per cent of a copolymer of 60 to 85 weight per cent ethylene and 15 to 40 weight per cent of a vinyl, or acrylic or methacrylic ester having up to 5 carbon atoms in the acid or alcohol residue respectively and a melt index of 1À2 to 35; (B) 10 to 25 weight per cent of a high melting wax; and (C) 50 to 70 weight per cent of a resin blend of (a) an aliphatic thermoplastic hydrocarbon resin prepared from C 5-7 diene and olefin monomers and having a softening point of 155‹ to 240‹ F.; and (b) a dicyclopentadiene alkylation polymer resin having a softening point of 40‹ to 105‹ F. in a weight ratio of 0À3 to 1À5, said composition having a softening point of at least 190‹ F. In an example the composition comprises ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, microcrystalline and polyethylene waxes, resin blend, calcium carbonate and butylated hydroxytoluene.
