Abstract

A composition comprises (a) a polymer of a vinyl aromatic compound or a methyl-vinyl aromatic compound, and (b) a 1,4-polybutadiene having a cis-unit content of at least 25% and a vinyl content of not more than 10%, the quantity of (b) being at least 1% by weight of (a) + (b) and such as to increase the impact strength of (a). The quantity of (b) may be 1 to 20%. Preferred polymers (a) are polystyrene and copolymers of styrene with acrylonitrile, or esters of acrylic, methacrylic or itaconic acids. The compositions may be obtained by mechanical blending or by polymerization of the aromatic monomer in the presence of the cispolybutadiene. Specification 1,002,902 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 892,910.
