Abstract
1382233 Electric couplings ERJI CENTRE NATIONAL POUR L'EXPLOITATION DES OCEANS and LE NICKEL 25 Oct 1973 [25 Oct 1972] 49846/73 Heading H2E [Also in Division H4] An aerial lead-through assembly for a submersible radio buoy having a tubular body 9 comprises a plug 4 fitting in said body and having a tapered axial bore widening outwardly to receive the inner end part of an aerial 1, which is of complementary shape. The plug 4 also has two generally cylindrical recesses 5a, 5b which are respectively formed at the outer and inner ends thereof. A first toroidal seal 10 is interposed between the body 9 and the plug 4, and may be fitted in an annular groove formed in the latter. A second toroidal seal 6 is fitted around the aerial in the recess 5a, and a connector wire 2 extends from the end of the aerial in the recess 5b to a radio transmitter 3 within the buoy. Each of said recesses is filled with hardenable synthetic resin material on assembly, and a sleeve 7 is fitted over the aerial 1 outwardly of the plug 4. Said sleeve may be made of rubber and be associated with a metal retaining ring 7a. A clamping ring 8 secures the sleeve 7 and the plug 4 to the body 9, and may be fixed by means of plastics material screws 11. An annular retaining channel may be provided in either or each of the recesses 5a, 5b, to promote adherence of the filling material. The aerial 1 may be made of glass fibre with a central multi-strand core. It is stated that the assembly prevents the ingress of water at great depths, and resists the effects of violent impacts.
