1382105 Boots &c ZAVODY PRESNEHO STROJIRENSTVI NARODNI PODNIK 4 April 1972 [9 April 1971] 15511/72 Heading A3B A device for lasting the shank region of an upper 75 (which has previously been toe and heel lasted) includes a pair of inflatable elastic bags 66 which are surrounded by rigid shields 69 so that the bags are free to expand only in directions towards and under the last 75, the. arrangement being such that as the bags 66 are inflated to the shape shown in dotted lines they tension the upper and lay the upper across the insole 93. The device also includes a pair of pads 81 for clamping the upper 75 against the last 74. As described the device is mounted on a base plate 53 which is carried by an arm 43 which forms part of a conveying device for moving the lasted upper. The base plate 53 carries, on its lower surface, a cylinder 59 whose piston rods 61, are connected by cross heads 67 to a pair of cylinders 64 which are slidable in guides in the base plate 53. The cylinders- 64 carry support members 65 for the bags 66 and shields 69 and one of the shields 69 carries a bridging piece 92. Double arm levers 73 are pivoted to brackets 70 formed on the support members 65, the upper arms 731 releasably carrying the pads 81 and the lower arms 732 being formed with flats 733 which are engaged by rollers 77 on plungers 76 in the cylinders 64. In use the lasted upper is placed in position in the device and pressure fluid is fed to the opposite ends of cylinder 59 to move the bag assemblies towards each other. to the position shown. Pressure fluid is then fed to the cylinders 64 so that the pads 81 press against the upper to hold the last in position. The bags 66 are then inflated to last the shank region of the upper.
