1339835 Boots &c ZAVODY PRESNEHO STROJIRENSTVI GOTTWALDOV NARODNI PODNIK 19 April 1971 [28 April 1970] 27330/71 Heading A3B A shank lasting machine includes a last support and a lasting assembly at each side of the last, each lasting assembly consisting of a number of independent lasting units, each lasting unit consisting of a resilient wiper finger 32 and a stretching band 35. The last 49 is supported by a last pin 48 on a jack post (not shown) which can swing in a longitudinal direction and about a vertical axis 53 (Fig. 1). Each lasting assembly is carried by a member 3 which is pivoted at 2 to a bracket 1 on the machine frame. The angular position of the member 3 can be adjusted by a handwheel 11 which rotates rod 10, worm 9, worm wheel 7, pinion 6, and a toothed segment 5 fixed to the member 3. Each lasting unit is mounted on a carrier 18 which can slide in a T-shaped groove 17 in the member 3, the heightwise position of the lasting unit being adjusted by screw 40. Each carrier 18 carries a slide 22 having rollers 23, 24 which engage a groove 25 in the carrier 18. Each slide 22 is connected to a piston rod 19 and carries a resilient wiper finger 32, the initial position of each finger 32 being adjusted by screw 38. The free end of each finger 32 carries a contact member 33 and is attached to one end of a stretching band 35. The band 35 passes over guide 14 and its other end is secured by clamp 36 to a cable 37 attached to spring 38, the tension in the spring 38 being adjustable. By adjusting screw 40 the heightwise position of each wiper finger 32 can be altered, thus adjusting the pressure exerted by the finger 32 on the lasting margin. In operation a last 4a is placed on the last pin 48 and the jack post is swung rearwardly until the last contacts a movable heel stop 60 to start the machine cycle. The jack is then raised to clamp the last against a hold-down 59 and is locked against the heel stop 60. Pressure fluid is then supplied through lines 46 to advance each slide 22 and thus each lasting unit. As each unit advances the band 35 contacts the upper 69 to stretch it over the last and the contact member 33 on each resilient wiper finger 32 engages the lasting margin and wipes it across the insole. After a predetermined time delay the various parts return to their initial positions.
