Abstract

1,067,330. Lasting machines. J. S. KAMBORIAN. Jan. 25, 1966 [Feb. 15, 1965], No. 3350/66. Heading A3B. The heel portion of a shoe upper is clamped against a last by a heel band having legs which, when the band is positioned with its bight in engagement with the heel, move initially in a direction having a component of movement extending from the heel to the toe and then moves in a direction substantially at right angles to the longitudinal centre line of the shoe assembly. As described the heel band is incorporated in a heel seat lasting machine of the type described in Specification 1,040,222. The heel band 144 consists of an inflatable pad of expandable material which is supported on a resilient backing 164 e.g. of corded rubber which has a central bracket 172 connected to a slide 124 and two side brackets which are pivoted to links 184 which are pivoted to levers 118. The levers 118 are pivoted at 122 to the slide 124 and can be rotated by pneumatic piston and cylinder 108, the whole assembly being carried on a main slide plate 58. In operation the main slide plate 58 is moved forwardly until the bight 146 of the heel band engages the shoe which causes the slide to stop moving and be locked in this position as described in the above mentioned specification. The cylinders 108 are then activated which causes the lever 118 and links 184 to act as a toggle machanism to move the ends of the heel band forwardly, stretching the heel band, until the links 184 engages stops 190 which causes the heel band to move inwardly to clamp the upper against the last.
