Abstract
860,101. Boot-making machinery, BORTRAND, E. A. G. May 1, 1959 [Aug. 5, 1958], No. 14868/59. Class 17(1) A machine for moulding the heel ends of shoe uppers comprises a conventional male lower die 1 Fig. 5, and an upper die in the form of a casing having a flexible face 2 2 , Fig. 4, the casing being inflated by fluid pressure. The upper is placed over the male die 1 which has heating means 14, and fluid pressure is admitted to cylinder 11 1 , to move piston 11 2 to clamp the upper between clamping arms 12 1 , 12 2 on either side of the die I, Fig. 3. The clamping device on which the arms 12 1 , 12 2 are mounted is pivoted about pin 12 3 , and piston-cylinder assembly 8 1 , 8 then moves the device so that the clamping arms move downwards, tensioning the upper about the die 1. Fig. 5. The upper die, which is mounted on a piston 5 2 in a cylinder 5 1 , is lowered, the cushioning die 2 2 is inflated and pressure fluid is admitted to the underneath of counter-piston 5 3 , which rises, forcing ball-bearings 5 8 into grooves 5 6 , locking piston 5 2 in its lower position, Fig. 4. The pistons 5 2 , 5 3 , 11 2 , 8 1 are spring returned on the release of pressure. The apparatus may be pneumatically or hydraulically operated and may be duplex.
