1328505 Boots &c BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 27 Nov 1970 [29 Nov 1969] 58451/69 Heading A3B A heel seat lasting machine includes a last support for supporting a last bottom-up in the machine, a piston and cylinder device for initially yieldably supporting the last support so that the last can be depressed by a hold down until the insole is at the correct level with respect to the wipers, and an additional fluid pressure operated device which urges the last support upwardly to apply heavy bedding pressure when the wipers have completed their inwiping movement and the hold-down has been retracted. As described the last support consists of a jack post 2 having a last pin 10 and is incorporated in a lasting machine of the type described in Specification 1319058. The jack post 2 is slidable in a sleeve 4 and has a bore 3 forming a cylinder. A piston 5 is located within the bore 3 and rests on the plunger 20 of a diaphragm air motor 18. Air under relatively low pressure is supplied to the bore 3 via inlet pipe 13 and passage 11 to resiliently support the jack post 2 during the initial stages of the machine cycle to allow the jack post to be depressed by a holddown (not shown). Towards the end of the cycle the motor 18 is operated to apply heavy bedding pressure, this pressure being applied directly to the jack post 2 by means of abutting shoulders 21, 25, the pressure in bore 3 being relieved during the application of bedding pressure. The pressure in bore 3 may be increased when the side grippers (not shown) and wipers (not shown) are operated.
