Balances; riders and their appartenances. - A device for positioning a rider 28 upon the graduated top of a scale-beam 10 comprises a frame in which a rod 20 connected to a vernier 30 may be slid and rotated by hand. The rod 20 carries a hook 26 adapted to manipulate the rider 28 in the manner indicated in Fig. 2. A sliding member 22 supports one end of the rod 20 and is adjustably positioned thereon by collars 23, 24. The sliding member carries the vernier 30, which cooperates with a graduated scale 18 on the frame, the scale 18 being a duplicate of the beam scale 19. A screw 31 stops the rod 20 at the zero position. After the rider has been positioned on the beam 10, its position intermediate two graduations may be read off on the vernier.
