Abstract
1381186 Wire coating CONNOLLYS (BLACKLEY) Ltd 6 April 1973 [6 April 1972] 15949/72 Addition to 1293942 Heading D1L The interstices between separate elongated elements of an elongated body, particularly a telecommunication cable are filled as described in Specification 1293942, by passing the body through a bath of a filling liquid which is liquid above ambient temperature and solid at, or below ambient temperature, via cooled dies which prevents leak of the filling liquid from. the bath. The subjectmatter of this Specification is modified by including 'in the bath a chamber immersed in the filling material through which the elongated body is passed. The filling material is caused to flow continuously into and out of the chamber by pumping it from the bath into the chamber at a pressure considerably above atmospheric pressure whereby the rate of flow of the material through the chamber and its pressure purge the interstices of the body of air thereby ensure substantial filling of the interstices. As shown, liquid filling material is fed into bath 1 from pipe 7 regulated by valve 8 and maintained in the liquid state by heater 6. Cable C is fed into and out of bath 1 via dies 11 and 12 which are cooled by fins 14 thereby preventing leakage of material from the bath. Positioned in the upper part of the bath and immersed in the liquid is open-end tubular chamber 15 through which the cable passes. Through this chamber via inlet port 16, liquid filling material from the bath is pumped by motor 18, pump 17 and control valve 19.
