Abstract
1380413 Coin controlled net tensioning device ROBERT RIGBY Ltd 31 Jan 1972 [18 Jan 1971] 2422/71 Heading A6D [Also in Division G4] A net tensioning device is provided with a clutch arrangement prohibiting tensioning of the net when disengaged and a prepayment meter arranged to activate means to engage the clutch for a period of time to enable the net to be tensioned. In the arrangement shown handle 18 is used to tension the net support cord 2 through a worm 10 and worm-wheel 8. The worm 10 is pivotally mounted at one end 12 and the other end is supported in a movable bracket 20 to engage or disengage the worm 10 and the wheel 8. The bracket 20 is normally in its lower position so that the net can not be tensioned. The bracket 20 is raised to engage the worm 10 and wheel 8 by solenoid SOL. 1 controlled by a coin operated microswitch and a push button in the pre-payment meter. Movement of bracket 20 operates switch M.S.2 to de-energise solenoid SOL. 2 to permit insertion of locking member 38 by spring 42 and de-energise solenoid SOL. 1. The cord 2 can then be tensioned. After a set period of time the prepayment meter operates through a further switch M.S. 3 to energise solenoid SOL. 2 to withdraw the member 38. SOL. 2 also operates switch M.S. 4 which energises solenoid SOL. 3 to positively move the bracket 20 downwards to disengage the worm 10 from wheel 8 and thus release the tension on the net cord 2. Movement of bracket 20 downwards opens switch M.S. 3 to de-energise SOL. 2 and the spring 42 urges the plunger back sufficiently to open switch M.S. 4 to de-energise SOL. 3 and leave the mechanism ready for further operation on insertion of a further coin in the prepayment meter. A further push button is arranged in the circuitry to allow solenoid SOL. 2 to be operated to release tension in cord 2 if it has been over tightened. The mechanism can be battery or mains operated. A lever can be incorporated in the cord tensioning mechanism to improve the mechanical advantage thereof.
