Abstract

1529396 Bowling machines K W KIRK A W KIRK B K KIRK C G KIRK G C KIRK and S A KIRK [trading as K W KIRK & SONS] 9 March 1977 [10 March 1976] 09562/76 Heading A6D A bowling machine e.g. for practising cricket comprises a throwing arm 12 rotatable about a horizontal axis with an arcuate guide 14 centred on axis, a trigger 34 having a pawl 28 selectively engageable with a catch 30 on arm 12, and a pair of springs 22 connected to the throwing arm and a cocking mechanism comprising a lever 20 pivotally mounted to frame 10 and having a catch 24 selectively engageable with one of a number of pins 26 to vary the force which will be applied to the throwing arm. The device is cocked by moving pedal 38 on arm 20 downwardly or pulling on lever 40 until catch 24 engages a pin 26. This causes arm 12 to move downwardly to enable engagement with pawl 28 on trigger 34. A ball inserted in shute 16 will on release of trigger 34 be displaced along guide 14 by arm 12 and released from guide 14 by arm 12 at a position determined by movable cover portion 18.
