Abstract
1380389 Candle filters for liquids MASON & MORTON Ltd 17 Dec 1971 58495/70 Heading B1D Liquid is filtered inwards through slits 27 in a tubular screen 16 which has a smooth outer surface, the slits diverging in width in a radially inward direction. Particles of a size of more than 100 microns are retained on the outer surface of the screen. The filtered liquid flows out of the filter through channels 25 in the head 14. As shown, the slits are parallel to the central axis of the filter; but alternatively the slits may be transverse. The angle of divergence of the slits is preferably between 80‹ and 90‹. The filter cake is dislodged from the outer surface of the screen by back-washing. The helical spring 17 within the screen is in a state of compression, and prevents possible collapse under mechanical or filtration pressures. The spring may be replaced by a core of cruciform cross-section. The screen may be made of nickel, titanium, stainless steel or chrome-nickel.
