Abstract

1380001 Making extracts CEYLON INSTITUTE OF SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH 5 July 1972 31538/72 Heading B1Q Solid in filter paper thimble 6 is extracted by liquid condensing in condensers 4 and 5. Liquid in evaporator flask is boiled so that the vapour pushes up thimble 6 and passes into condensers 4 and 5 where the vapour condenses and passes backinto thimble 6. When the level of the condensed liquid -in thimble 6 reaches the bottom 19 of the condenser 4, the vapour from evaporator 1 forces its way through the liquid into the condenser 4 thus causing vigorous agitation in thimble 6. Heating of the liquid in evaporator flask 1 is stopped when the thimble is full of liquid, so that the vacuum that is thus created in evaporator 1 causes liquid containing extract to be drawn through the wall of the thimble into evaporator flask 1.
