Abstract

1379908 Laminated patterned fabrics COURTAULDS Ltd 19 April 1972 [21 April 1971] 10463/71 Heading B5N [Also in Division D1] A patterned fabric is produced by treating a stitch-bonded non-woven fabric, in a pattern of areas with a corrosive substance e.g. aluminium sulphate, acetone or caustic soda, which is corrosive to fibres in the web but not corrosive to the stitching yarn, e.g. nylon. The web may comprise stable fibres and/or adhesive filaments and be in the form of a blend of fibres having different corrosion characteristics and can be reinforced by solvent bonding, adhesive bonding, melt or print-bonding or by lamination to a backing fabric. The stitching yarn may be of a different colour to the web or may have a different dyeing affinity for subsequent piece dyeing. The corrosive substance can be a paste containing a dye, e.g. a printing paste. The fibres may be wool, cotton, regenerated cellulose, cellulose acetate, polyamides, polyesters, acrylics, polyolefins and modacrylics. The non- woven fabric may consist-of lapped webs or be combined with layers of woven, knitted or non- woven scrim, e.g. it may be laminated to a cellulose triacetate knitted fabric. Corrosion may be produced by subsequent heating and the fabrics may be subsequently dyed.
