Abstract

1379578 Fluidised bed apparatus COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 4 Aug 1972 [18 Aug 1971] 38813/71 Heading B1F [Also in Division F4] The circulation of particles within a fluidised bed is promoted by arranging baffles above the bed so that particles leaving the bed at one location are deflected to return to the bed at a different location. The bed 6 may be subdivided by walls 14 below each inclined baffle 8, Fig. 2, so that the bed particles travel from one compartment to another. The distributor plate 12 for the fluidising gas may be sloped in each compartment to encourage the overall flow, or several separate circulatory flows may be promoted by a distributor plate of flattened saw-tooth form, Fig. 3. One end of a baffle may be immersed in the bed, and by suitable control of the fluidising gas flows, particles may be caused to flow from one section 46 of a fluidised bed, Fig. 6, over a wall 30 to pass below an immersed baffle 32 and contact heat exchange tubes 42.
