Abstract

1320083 Pneumatic conveyers DROOGTECHNIEK EN LUCHTBEHANDELING NV 9 Aug 1971 37307/71 Heading B8A [Also in Division F4] Particles are dried or otherwise treated by the fluidizing gas in a fluidized bed which is divided into series of chambers 1, the particles being fed continually into the first chamber and intermittently out of each chamber at the bottom through valves 6 which are controlled so that at least one is closed at any one time to prevent continuous discharge, and so that both the entry and exit valves of each chamber after the first remain closed for a predetermined period to ensure that all particles are treated for at least that period. In the embodiment shown, Fig. 3, successive chambers 1 are positioned at lower levels so that each chamber is emptied completely. The apertures 9 (Fig. 4, not shown) in the perforated base 3 of each chamber 1 are inclined so that the fluidizing gas and hence the particles adjacent the base are directed towards the exit valve 6. The flap of each valve 6 may overlie the portion 10 (Fig. 5, not shown) of partition 2 immediately below the valve opening, this portion (10) being perforated so that gas from a chamber 5 blows through to clean the valve flap while the valve is open. In another embodiment (Fig. 1 not shown) the chambers 1 are on the same level so that opening the valve between adjacent chambers merely equalizes the levels and does not completely empty one chamber. In another embodiments the chambers may be separate containers connected by ducts and may have different floor areas, and the two systems may be mixed. Hot gas for drying may be passed through earlier chambers and cooling gas through the last.
