Abstract

1432859 Drying grain CALIFORNIA PELLET MILL CO 17 Dec 1973 [18 Dec 1972] 58327/73 Heading A2Q Apparatus for drying grain comprises (a) an elongate housing 12, the base of which has a plurality of perforate areas 21-23 spaced by at least one imperforate zone 27. 28 disposed between the ends, (b) means 6 for supplying grain to one end of the housing, (c) means 17 for discharging grain from the other end, (d) at least one weir 30, 31, 32 extending between the side walls of the housing, spaced from the top and bottom walls and located above an imperforate zone, (e) means 48 adjacent to the grain supply end for supplying hot air to the housing through the perforate areas and (f) means 36 adjacent the discharge end for releasing air from the housing. In the embodiment shown, weirs 30-32 are metal plates and can be raised and lowered to control the flow of the grain. Hot air is supplied by blower 43 and heater 46 and is deflected through the perforate zones by baffles 26. Spent air is recycled via duct 37 and cyclone separator 38. Discharge of the grain through duct 17 is controlled by valve 18.
