Abstract
PURPOSE:To make a reactor excellently corrosion resistant to sulfurization, by feeding steam through feed openings made in the vertical direction of an external heating type vertical moving bed reactor in plural stages so as to allow the steam to contact countercurrently with carbonaceous material which is charged from above and contains S compound. CONSTITUTION:Feed openings 2 for steam are made in the side wall of a reactor, which is made of, e.g., KH40 and which has feed openings 1 for steam on the base. A prescribed number of the openings 2 are arranged in the circumferential direction at equal intervals. The plural openings 2 of each row are made in multistage at 300-1,000mm. interval over the whole length of the reactor. The reactor is set in a heating furnace. Used activated carbon of 48% water content and 15% total S content is charged at ordinary temp. from above to the reactor and is allowed to contact countercurrently with steam fed through feed openings 1 and 2 at about 500 deg.C temp., hereby the activated carbon is regenerated. No troubles with the reacting pipe wall due to the corrosion by sulfurizatin are found after continuous regeneration of activated carbon for a long time, e.g., 300 days.
