Abstract

1379571 Removing curl from webs MASSON SCOTT THRISSELL ENG Ltd 10 March 1972 [10 March 1971] 6522/71 Heading B8R A curl corrector apparatus comprises two curl corrector rods 16, 17 which, when inoperative, are positioned on opposite sides of the plane of a web feed path between two pairs of guide rollers 10, 11, 13, 14 and are displaceable to two alternative, operative positions to deflect the web to either side of the plane for correction of curl. The rods may be rotatably mounted, with a limited degree of lateral play, on a mounting plate 18, the plate being linked to a frame of the apparatus by non-parallel pivotable arms 21, 22 movable by a screw actuator 15. The rods are provided with back-up rolls 19, 20. The rods may alternatively be mounted on a pivotable arm (30), Fig. 2 (not shown), the back-up rolls being held between plates (31), (32), pivotable about the rod mountings and linked to the apparatus frame by arms (33), (34). In other forms the rods may be mounted on relattively slidable plates (181), (182), Fig. 3 (not shown), or hinged plates (184), (185), Fig. 4 (not shown), so that they can be urged together or separated by an actuator. In a further embodiment the rods and back-up rolls are supported on a carriage movable perpendicularly with respect to the plane of the web feed path between the guide rollers on rails.
