Abstract

1379023 Dispensing liquids L DILGER 23 Nov 1971 [12 Jan 1971] 1454/71 Heading A4T [Also in Division B8] A fluid e.g. petrol metering system comprises a chamber 12A, a displaceable member, e.g. a piston 14A or a diaphragm (110) Fig.9 (not shown), dividing the chamber, a valve system 16A, 16B by which fluid can be supplied to either side of the displaceable member to move the latter to dispense fluid on the other side of the displaceable member into an outlet line 25; an indicating means (not shown) for indicating the volume of fluid dispensed, and a controller 26 arranged to (a) electrically control the valve system to cause the displaceable member to execute dispensing strokes and (b) electrically and independently of the movement of the displaceable member to directly actuate the indicating means. The illustrated valve system includes valve-members 20A, 20B of magnetizable material, magnets 21A, 21B, 22A, 22B, and coils 23A to which current is appropriately supplied to magnetize the valvemembers so that they are attracted by magnets 21B, 22A or 21A, 22B. The controller 26, Fig.6, comprises means 58 for generating a first train of pulses which is supplied to the valve system, means 56 for generating a second train of pulses which is supplied to a volume indicator 57 and means 54 for generating a third train of pulses which is supplied to a price indicator 55. The controller includes means 165 for entering a volume to be dispensed or a price, and when the volume or the price is reached the pulse generating means is switched off. The metering system can be calibrated by varying the number of pulses supplied to the volume indicator to that supplied to the valve system. A modified metering system includes two piston and cylinder assemblies, the system dispensing one fluid Figs.2 and 3 (not shown)-or each piston and cylinder assembly dispensing a separate fluid Fig.4 (not shown). In the latter case a blend selector 60, Fig.6, is employed which delivers a respective train of pulses to the valve system associated with each piston and cylinder assembly. The valve system may be provided by a piston movable longitudinally of a cylinder to dispense fluid being also rotatable about its axis by magnetic means to align parts in the piston leading to either end of the cylinder with fluid inlet and outlet lines Figs.7A-7B (not shown).
