Abstract

1378877 Solid/gas contact; centrifugal separators SIEMENS AG 21 Oct 1971 [30 July 1971] 49065/71 Headings B1F and B2P [Also in Division F4] Granular material is introduced tangentially at 3 into a cylindrical chamber 1 supplied with gaseous medium via tangential nozzles so that the material is carried around within the chamber near its peripheral wall, the treated materialbeing discharged at 5 and the gaseous medium being extracted through apertures in a central discharge tube means extending into the chamber at least half the length of the chamber. The chamber may be horizontal, inverted or in any other orientation. In Fig. 1, a drier is shown having the tangential nozzles 2 lying in spaced planes perpendicular to the chamber axis, revolving rings 4 of material being formed. Material may be moved downwards either by shutting off a plane of nozzles, or by adding further material. The gaseous medium is extracted through apertures 8 in a tapered central tube 6. In Fig. 3, the tangential nozzles 9 are downwardly inclined and lie on a helical line around the peripheral wall of the chamber, so that the material moves downwardly, along a helical path 10. The gaseous medium is extracted at 15, 16 and 17 through adjustable tubes 14, 13 and 12, and is supplied at various temperatures and in various compositions via plenums 25, 26, 27 to zones 20, 21, 22 defined by diaphragms 18 and 19. Diaphragm 28 prevents discharge of gas through the material outlet 5.
