Abstract

1378801 Safety belt. buckles G E Y PATENTER AB 13 April 1972 [13 April 1971] 17170/72 Headings E2A and E2B A push button mechanism for a safety belt buckle comprises a base plate 10, a cover plate 30, and a release button 21 of 'Z'-shape having a pressure plate 25, a base plate and a shaft 25' the button 21 being biassed by a spring 39. Pressure plate 25 is located above cover plate 30 and shaft 25' is received in a slot 34 thereof, and a tongue 23 of the Z-shaped button is located in a space 18 provided between the body portion 11 and an offset portion 16 of the base plate 10. Spring 39 rests on a circular portion 35 of an arm 35 of a bell crank lever pivotally connected to the cover plate, the other arm 36 of which is bent down into an opening 33 of the cover plate to help retain the cover and base plates together. Marginal portions 32 of the cover plate are inserted into notches 13 in flanges 12A, 12B of the base plate. When a tongue 46 attached to a belt strap is forced into an opening 49, Fig. 6 (not shown) formed between the cover and base plates the Z-shaped member is pivoted against the bias of the spring 39 until an opening in the tongue coincides with shoulders 24 of member 21 which member under the action of spring 39 is biassed so that shoulders 24 and shoulders 48 of the tongue prevent withdrawal of the latter. During insertion of the tongue, heads 28 of pins 29 located in slots 29 are pushed back by tongue 46. To disengage the tongue the button is depressed thereby disengaging shoulders 24, 48 and the tongue is ejected by the springs 27. Housing parts 41, 42 of the buckle and button 25 may be coated with a luminescent or fluorescent material so that the buckle may be located in the dark.
