Abstract

1403822 Safety belt buckles ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP 1 Oct 1973 [2 Oct 1972] 45696/73 Heading E2A A tongue assembly for locking engagement with a seat belt buckle comprises a tongue 1 adapted for insertion into a buckle and a biassed tongue-ejecting member 7 attached to the tongue, the member being adapted to be placed under stress with respect to the buckle by the act of inserting and latching the tongue in the buckle, whereby, when the tongue is released it is forceably ejected from the buckle. The member 7 comprises a slidably movable member positioned for contact with the buckle 25 when the tongue is inserted therein and is biassed by a spring 14 away from the buckle upon release thereof. Portions 12, 13 of the member are substantially permanently attached one with the other and the member is slidably arranged with an opening 6 of the tongue for limited travel therein. As shown, the tongue is retained in the buckle by a spring-loaded latch 5.
